What means chiptuning?

Tuning refers to changing the basic information injection computer implemented through a chip called after cases, flash or EPROM. This operation changes the basic information present in face reading information refers to original image modification and reprogramming them with new information. Changes may be made as appropriate and where possible by OBD socket of the car, namely its electronic diagnostic socket, by connecting directly to the injection computer connectors, by connecting directly to the injection computer’s motherboard PCB or through direct manipulation of the chip by disconnecting and reconnecting from the motherboard after reading and reprogramming. Changes to information – the way software is made only in the operating parameters that allow tolerance so that changes do not exceed the operating limits imposed by the manufacturer. This is the major difference between a correct chiptuning or a tuning that can bring your car in situation to suffer some damage due to improper installation of chiptuning and inconsistent with the limitations imposed by the manufacturer. Chiptuning is suitable on 95% of vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection system.

 What growth can be achieved with chiptuning?

For cars equipped with aspirated Otto engines:
  • Power increases is between 10 and 14% of initial strength depending on the fuel used
  • The engine will be more responsive acceleration, enhanced flexibility, greater speed
  • Fuel consumption will decrease by 10-12% of initial consumption.
For cars equipped with turbo Otto engines:
  • Power increases is between 20 and 50% of initial strength depending on engine car
  • Increases the torque is between 25 and 60% of baseline
  • Fuel consumption falls in a normal work conditions.
For cars equipped with turbo diesel engines:
  • Increases power and torque is between 20 and 45% of the initial strength of the car
  • Fuel consumption reduced by about 10-12% of baseline in normal operation.

 Consumption decreasing?

Chiptuning brings about a decrease in fuel consumption by increasing the operating efficiency of the motor. Decreases of fuel consumption is between 10 and 12% of initial engine normal work. Decreased maybe higher or lower depending on engine.

 It’s harmful for the engine?

Any manufacturer designs an engine with more tolerance limits to offer a guarantee as long as possible and to allow the engine in the harshest weather conditions. If tuning is done within the limits imposed by the manufacturer to design margins can not affect in any harm way your engine operation, are even cases in which engines will run more relaxed in lower temperature regimes, which means an increased safety in operation after chiptuning.

 How long does a chiptuning operation?

Working time of chiptuning operations may vary from 1 to 4 hours, depending on the model. At this time your car remains immobilized in our service, after this period you will be able to use the car without any restrictions from the first minute of operation after chiptuning.

Chiptuning vs Powerbox

Powerbox is a way to increase power by using a device which alter sensor signals sent to the engine computer (ECU). At common rail, turbo diesel engines, the Powerbox is installed in parallel with the pressure monitoring system in injection ramp and alters pressure sensor signal to the engine computer, signal being altered with a fixed value.

The major problem generated by this system is that altering the pressure sensor signal in ramp with a fixed value, it will alter the various system where sensors transmit signals to the engine computer, variations caused by changing engine operating conditions due to variations in temperature, climate, etc..

Thus the engine computer will not see the actual pressure in injection ramp and would not be able to correct pressure or put in limp mode that circuit in case of danger.

Next problem is that increasing the amount of diesel injected by increasing pressure artificially in injection ramp, are necessary adjustments to the intake system, namely turbine pressure, variable speed drive geometry, advance etc. operations which powerbox is not able to do. A problem generated by the first two, is increased and sustained stress on the injectors whose service life will be shortened significantly.

Chiptuning is an operation to increase power by optimizing operation parameters specified in the original software of the injection computer (ECU). This can optimize all needed parameters to increase efficiency through optimization and ramp pressure injection, manifold pressure / turbine, variable geometry speed drive, advance, injected amount per time unit, signal flow, etc. and all these parameters keeps running in accordance. All sensors on car retains its functionality, and engine control unit (ECU) can analyze signals issued by sensors, can react with limp mode in a threatening environment, can be adapted as climate change conditions, temperature etc.

What is the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)?

Most diesel passenger cars, vans and commercial vehicles, built after 2006 have a DPF (diesel particulate filter) installed in the exhaust system. Some vehicles like Peugeot, Citreon & Fiat have had them fitted since 2001. This is a filter designed to reduce the soot particles created from engine combustion from entering the atmosphere.

What It Does?

The diesel particle filter removes polluting chemicals that result from diesel combustion before these particles of polluting matter reach the tailpipe and enter the atmosphere. It works similar to a catalytic converter by trapping and re-heating pollution.

Eventually all DPF filters will clog up at some time bringing engine management light on and indicate about clogging. Most manufacturers will swear this will be a long time, but since the technology is so new we will only find out through time how long they last. They are not cheap to replace and this has a lot of diesel aficionados worried.

The Affect of Diesel Particle Filters or DPF on Fuel Mileage?

The diesel particle filter itself creates an obstruction in the exhaust system. Combine this with the diesel catalytic converter and you have created several pounds per square inch of blockage on your exhaust pipe.

Also to start DPF regeneration process an extra amount of fuel has to be injected to raise the temperature to the level required for regeneration.
